Am Samstag, den 16. März 2024 findet in der Fortuna Kulturfabrik eine St. Patrick’s Day Party mit Chris & Dave aus Castlebar statt.

Beide Musiker standen schon beim Altstadtfest 2016 und bei der Nacht der Kulturen 2018  in Höchstadt auf der Bühne und haben mit ihrem irischen Charme sowie großartigen Songs das Publikum begeistert. Die Stadt Höchstadt/Aisch und der Freundeskreis Castlebar wollen mit irischer Musik und Guinness in den irischen Nationalfeiertag hineinfeiern. Alle Irlandfreunde und Fans der Grünen Insel sind herzlich Willkommen!
Ab 20 Uhr beginnt die Show.  An der Abendkasse kosten die Tickets 12 (erm. 10) Euro. Im Vorverkauf sind die Eintrittskarten jeweils 2 Euro günstiger. Sichert euch also schon im Vorfeld die Tickets! Wir freuen uns auf euch und Sie!

Aus Irland stammt Halloween (= All Hallows Eve). Die Legende um Jack, der zwar dem Teufel ein Schnäppchen schlägt, aber nicht in den Himmel kommen kann wegen all seiner Schandtaten, hat sich zu einem großen, weltweit gefeierten Event entwickelt.

Eine turnip wurde als Jack-o-Lantern verwendet, bevor in der Neuen Welt die Kürbisse der Steckrübe den Rang abliefen.

Dieses Jahr verkaufte der Freundeskreis Höchstadt-Castlebar  Guinness zum Altstadtfest. Die Vorsitzenden Tina Reißberger sowie Bürgermeister Gerald Brehm verkauften das berühmte Irish Stout im Kommunbrauhaus. Und so nahmen die Altstadtfestbesucher gerne die Gelegenheit wahr, sich das ein oder andere Pint zu gönnen.

After a break of almost four years, due to the Corona Virus Pandemic, Tony Shevlin, Chief Fire Officer, Mayo County Council was delighted to welcome his friends and colleagues from Höchstadt Fire Brigade to Castlebar and County Mayo. After 23 years of partnership there have been some enforced changes so the delegation of Benjamin Obexer, Felix Wasel, Jochen Tohol and Stefan Effenberg meant that the visiting delegation comprised of some familiar faces and some new ones.

The visit from the 3^rd to 10^th July facilitated the development of new friendships, the rekindling of old and the overall nurturing of a partnership which has continued to go from strength to strength as the years progress.

Training and the exchange of experience again took up a lot of space during the week. There was an entertaining and engaging discussion on an array of equipment and tactics used so that each could benefit from the experience of the other.

Away from the training there was also an opportunity for engagement at a social level and a chance to meet our recently retired colleagues Seamus Murphy and Pete Mc Donnell.

The commander of the Höchstadt Fire Department said, “We at the Höchstadt Fire Department were delighted to be able to fulfil our promise made in 2019 to make a return visit.” For Jochen and I, it was our first visit to the Mayo County Fire Service, but we were received so kindly as if we had been part of it for years. Felix has been involved since the beginning of the partnership and was thrilled to see how the comrades always put together an extensive exciting program each time.
Tony Shevlin commented ‘It was great once again to work with our friends and colleagues from Höchstadt Fire Brigade and we look forward to many more years of this warm and rewarding partnership’.
Benjamin Obexer concurred and said that ‘what started as an initial exchange of experiences has developed into a deep friendship and, as the commander of the Höchstadt Fire Department, I will certainly continue. We are already planning the visit of our friends in Höchstadt next year’.

Tom Kelly vom Connaught Telegraph hat uns einige Eindrücke von der diesjährigen St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Castlebar geschickt. Wie immer war von Jung bis Alt die ganze Stadt auf den Beinen.  Mit viel Musikbegleitung zog die farbenfrohe Parade durch die Straßen.  Viele irische grün-weiß-orangene Fahnen wehten an diesem Tag und wurden freudig geschwungen.

Erstmals traf sich der Englisch Stammtisch des Freundeskreis Höchstadt-Castlebar nicht in Höchstadt, sondern in der Gastwirtschaft “Hopfenhaus” in Röttenbach.  Dieses Mal stand nicht nur English Conversation auf dem Programm, sondern auch typical English food. Die Fish & Chips mit Mushy Peas waren das kulinarisches Ziel – und das hat sich sehr gelohnt!

Michael Kilcoyne Cathaoirleach  (Mayor) of the Castlebar Municipal District switched on the lights in the town. Cllrs Ger Deer,  Blackie Gavin, Donna Sheridan and the President of the Castlebar Chamber  Bernard Hughes were cheering.
For this Christmas season Market Square, Main Street,  Ellison Street and the beautiful old trees on the Mall are all lit up.  Castlebar looks really well this year.
Of course the beautiful crib has pride of place on the Market Square and has been admired by the many visitors to our town.

Die Krippe kommt aus Armenien und wurde im Jahr 2012 vom Freundeskreis Castlebar in Zusammenarbeit mit der Armenienhilfe der Pfarrgemeinde St. Georg für die Partnerstadt organisiert.
Santa was also there and distributed sweets to the children and the mammies and daddies.
The Castlebar Town Band provided the music and the weather was perfect: dry and cold.

Beim Freundeskreis Höchstadt-Castlebar fanden die Neuwahlen zwar schon Anfang Oktober statt, aber genau zu der Zeit hatte das bisherige Führungsduo, Dagmar Wennmacher und Anne Grohmann, leider Corona und mussten der Mitgliederversammlung fern bleiben. Sehr gefreut hat es die beiden jedoch, dass sich ein neuer Vorstand formiert hat, der die städtepartnerschaftlichen Beziehungen zwischen Höchstadt und Castlebar weiter begleiten wird.
